The Haunting of… Season 3: Everything We Know

This weekend, consider your house haunted. Netflix just dropped The Haunting of Bly Manor, the ghost story following The Haunting of Hill House in Mike Flanagan’s ongoing spooky stories franchise. The series takes Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw and leads us into the world of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti), a governess tasked with caring for the Wingraves—two orphaned children with closely guarded secrets.

After you’ve consumed all nine episodes (with or without the lights on), you may be wondering about the status of a third season. Ahead, everything we know about another installment in the Haunting of… anthology series and which cast members could return.

A third installment hasn’t been confirmed.

While the first two seasons of The Haunting of… have proven wildly popular, season 3 has not been announced. However, that doesn’t mean another installment isn’t in the cards. Fans had to wait four months after the premiere of The Haunting of Hill House for season 2 to be confirmed in February 2019. When the series was renewed, Variety reported that Netflix had signed a multi-year deal with show creator Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy. That means the streamer is certainly open to more seasons—or other projects from the duo behind the show.

Season 3 would likely be connected to both Hill House and Bly Manor.

Though each season of the show unpacks a different horror location, there are strings of connectivity between them. Mainly, there are several returning cast members who would likely be involved with a third season: Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Carla Gugino, and Kate Siegel (Flanagan’s real-life partner). While none of the OG cast members have signed on for season 3, Thomas told that “the stories are boundless” in the Haunting universe.

“There are absolutely little nods, but they’re very subtle,” Flanagan told earlier this year. “A lot in dialogue—you’ll hear familiar phrases, but it was really important to the actors, and to Victoria especially, that she wanted to be as unfamiliar as possible. So there are neat little moments where this season and the last season touch each other, but it’s way more in ideas than it is in specific narrative or character connections.”

Macy confirmed to Vanity Fair that future seasons would continue to adapt horror novels, calling the first two installments “a literary remix.”

The new season would probably premiere in October.

Without a greenlight, it’s impossible to know when a third entry in the series would premiere. However, both The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor debuted in October, though two years apart. That means The Haunting of (fill in the blank) could premiere in October 2022.

Whether COVID-19 filming restrictions or production on Flanagan’s other Netflix horror series Midnight Mass would delay that date remains to be seen. Until then, there’s two seasons of scares to binge-watch right now.
